Jen Robinson, Ph. D.

Indigenous Rights Researcher

Jennifer holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology from the University of Victoria. She has extensive experience conducting community-based research with First Nations across British Columbia, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories, including the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, Deninu Kųę́ First Nation, and Huu-ay-aht First Nation. Jen has led or co-led dozens of oral history interviews and focus groups with Elders and Knowledge Keepers; gathered Elders’ statements as part of residential school research; and facilitated community cultural events and meetings. She has a background in qualitative data analysis, including transcript analysis and coding, literature reviews, and knowledge translation, as well as survey delivery and content data analysis. Her experience in health policy, combined with her community-based research, has given her a deep grounding in Indigenous research methodologies and best practices for holistic understandings of health and wellness. Through several projects with First Nations and museum partners, she has conducted archival and collections research across most major Canadian institutions, both in person and through online databases; developed exhibitions and educational programming; and written successful grant applications. As an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Victoria, she has taught several courses to upper-level undergraduate students, co-authored journal articles, book chapters, and other publications, and presented at numerous conferences, including the American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting/Canadian Anthropology Society Annual Meetings.
