Digital Services Support

Salary: $23-$27/hour (commensurate with experience)

Summary: The successful Digital Services Support candidate will provide support to staff at Indigenous nations using Kwusen’s web-based mapping technologies including the Community KnowledgeKeeper (CKK) (a research data and consultations management system), NationsConnect (a web portal for inter-governmental communication) and the GeoKeeper (an environmental monitoring and field data collection app). The successful candidate will assist Kwusen staff in the configuration of new systems, enter and upload a variety of research-related data and other content to web-based applications, be an on-call support resource for digital service users, test new feature developments for all software platforms, and train users on software. Further, the successful Digital Services and Research Support candidate will provide research and data management support to Indigenous communities to ensure that they are well-positioned to make decisions and provide feedback to the natural resource sector, provincial governments and federal government on the environmental/Indigenous rights impacts of natural resource and infrastructure development.

Company Background: Kwusen Research & Media is dedicated to research and digital solutions to support Indigenous sovereignty. We work with Indigenous communities in Canada to collaboratively conduct community-based research on Indigenous knowledge and land use. Our approach emphasizes building capacity in Indigenous communities, supporting community members in researching their own traditions and land use practices utilizing innovative digital services. Our suite of software solutions supports communities in field-data collection as well as management of research data and consultation tracking. Our digital services are used by over forty Indigenous communities across Canada to manage and store Indigenous land use data, as well as to assist in the management of natural resource sector consultations/referrals they receive from government and industry.

Job Duties Include:

·   Assistance to our Digital Services Team in managing data from Indigenous communities

·   Working closely with Indigenous community staff to assist with their data entry questions/needs

·   Working closely with our technical team to assist in digital maintenance, testing and support

·   Using Google Earth and/or GIS software for basic mapping purposes

·   Uploading and entering data and documents

·   Potential travel to remote communities throughout northern and western Canada to assist with training for new users

·   Updating and posting on company social media platforms

·   Assistance with marketing

·   General office and administrative duties as required

Required Experience/Education:

·   Minimum one year of relevant work experience (such as work in an office environment providing general administrative support)

·   Experience completing computer data entry

·   Demonstrated interest in issues affecting Indigenous communities in Canada

·   A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or related experience

Required Skills:

·   Ability to work independently to complete tasks with great attention to detail

·   Ability to clearly communicate technical details and build rapport with people of diverse backgrounds

·   Familiarity in leading or assisting in multi-day training sessions for groups of 2-10 people

·   Good listening skills and the ability to be supportive when assisting people with diverse levels of computer skills

·   Basic knowledge of at least one mapping program (such as ARC GIS, QGIS, Google Earth, etc.)

·   Proficiency with MS Office or Google Suite

Desired Skills:

·   Experience working in or with an Indigenous community or organization

·   Experience with web-based application testing

·   Experience writing web copy

·   Experience with social media engagement

·   Experience in graphic design

·   Experience in marketing

·   Experience with video editing

·   Mapping with free/Open Source software

·   Experience with scientific monitoring programs
