Adams Lake Indian Band & Neskonlith Indian Band Cultural Heritage Assessment

Adams Lake Indian Band & Neskonlith Indian Band Cultural Heritage Assessment

Kwusen worked collaboratively with the Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB) and Neskonlith Indian Band (NIB) to conduct a Cultural Heritage Assessment (CHA) in relation to several proposed Highway 1 Four-Laning Projects. The CHA and report were designed to assist ALIB and NIB in assessing the potential effects of the proposed Project on Traditional Use Values, opportunities to exercise rights, the proposed Project’s contribution to cumulative effects, and effects on the broader Secwépemc Rights and Title of ALIB and NIB. Tasks included CHA research interviews, community workshops and groundtruthing. The multi-media digital material recorded during the interviews and workshop were uploaded to ALIB and NIB’s CKKs. Kwusen produced a CHA report that included a detailed ethnographic background, a results section outlining community concerns about Project effects, an assessment of Project effects on ALIB and NIB’s Secwépemc Title and Rights, and a discussion of mitigation measures. All research from this CHA continues to be utilized by the ALIB and NIB through their Community KnowledgeKeeper (CKK) database.
