The Buffalo Hunters

The Buffalo Hunters

Kwusen worked in collaboration with Mikisew Cree First Nation in the production of the documentary film "The Buffalo Hunters". This documentary focuses on the importance of hunting the Ronald Lake Bison for the Mikisew Cree First Nation and the impact of local industrial oil sands development on the bison, as well as on the traditional territory and way of life of the Mikisew Cree. Filmed over five intensive days of preparation and hunting in -25C conditions, the hunters explain how buffalo hunting is an essential part of who they are as a people and the many pressures they experience in attempting to continue this tradition in the face of oil sands development.
